Jim Ibell is living with dementia and he wants to talk about it. He wants to have conversations with people to help them understand the challenges he faces but also to show them that he is still the same person he was before the dementia.
That's why becoming a Dementia Friend is so important. By attending a Dementia Friends Session you can learn more about what it's like to live with dementia, and the actions you can take (big or small!) to help those living with the condition.
Jim was diagnosed with dementia over five years ago.
"People say to me, you don't look as though you've got dementia. So I usually say, what are you supposed to look like? It's just me, I'm the same person that I was before the dementia."
Jim says people with dementia need to be treated like normal people "My ambition would be to see every single person in the United Kingdom become a Dementia Friend...Every little bit you learn about dementia is helping other people with dementia."
We couldn't agree more!
