Dementia Action Week 2026 (18 – 24 May 2026)

This year, we set ourselves an ambitious target to create 10,000 new Dementia Friends during Dementia Action Week and the Forget Me Not Appeal in June. An incredible 10,000 more people who are helping us grow a kinder, more understanding community.

So far, over 4,600 Dementia Friends signed up during Dementia Action Week alone, by watching our online video or attending one of our interactive sessions. As of 17 June, we're proud to announce that we have made 10,325 Dementia Friends so far! With the rest of June to go, we can't wait for the final total. Thank you to everyone involved in getting us over our target!

Among the Dementia Friends who joined us during Dementia Action Week were staff and volunteers from Curzon Cinema Clevedon, Remember Me dementia day care centre in Aintree, the Mayor and Mayoress of Barnsley and Ty Cariad Dementia Care Centre. Thank you to everyone who has shared photos!

We saw communities coming together to raise awareness with eye catching community displays, crocheted forget me nots, and post box toppers. The Octagon tower at Ely Cathedral even lit up blue to celebrate the week.

Lincroft Meadow Care Home, Kidlington, created this stunning forget-me-not project! They said:

"Here at Lincroft Meadow, we are proud to support Dementia Action Week. This year, we decided to mark the week by raising awareness through our giant knitted forget-me-not project.

"For the last few months, our fabulous knit and natter group has been working hard to knit dozens of squares that could then be sewn together to create the individual forget-me-nots. The finished piece is now on display at the entrance to our home. We hope it stimulates conversation about dementia and helps to promote dementia awareness during this important week."

Thank you!

A huge thank you to our volunteers and staff members who ran over 240 sessions during Dementia Action Week! We couldn’t achieve what we do without our fantastic Dementia Friends Ambassadors dedicating their time to running sessions and raising awareness in their communities.

This is just a small selection of the events that took place during Dementia Action Week, so a huge thank you to every single person who was involved.

Raising awareness after Dementia Action Week

We’re asking everyone who kindly supported Dementia Action Week to support the Forget Me Not Appeal, too. This June, join us in wearing your Forget Me Not and help us beat the UK’s biggest killer.

Every Forget Me Not tells a story, share yours and read stories from other people affected by dementia here

Our target of 10,000 new Dementia Friends will continue throughout June so please do continue to raise awareness amongst friends and family who have not yet become a Dementia Friend!
