Dementia Action Week is here! We'll be sharing an inspiring story every day this week, highlighting the incredible actions that Dementia Friends are taking to help people affected by dementia.

First up, Sarah Mossop shared this fantastic story about taking her father out on a day trip:

'Last Sunday we took my father, who has dementia, on a day trip to Cambridge. He really enjoyed a visit to the Fitzwilliam museum, with so many objects that triggered memories for him, and to Kettle's Yard which was a new experience for him. These are the kind of cultural activities he used to do independently and often, before he was affected by dementia. He's managing incredibly well for an 88 year old who still lives on his own but I'm conscious that his social life has diminished a great deal in the last year or so and he may not be able to go on trips like this with me before much longer.

'I'm more aware of the need to be close at hand when my father is in unfamiliar surroundings - I held his arm as we walked around, which seemed to give him confidence. I was aware that the stimulus was good for him and it brought back memories that he was keen to share. His memory of the day has faded more quickly now. It was really special for us both to be sharing new experiences. The photo I've sent shows us in an art installation by Rana Begum made of hundreds of small baskets fastened together to make a canopy.'
