Cookies in use on dementiafriends.org.uk

This site uses cookies in order to provide a service to visitors. No personal data is stored in cookies which are used to

  • to allow users to log in to the web site
  • to check that cookies can be set and therefore determine whether a user is able to log in
  • to store a reference to form data that is stored on the web server.
  • to help us better understand how visitors engage with this website.

The following is a complete list of all cookies

Website Content Management System:

PHPSESSID

A unique identifier for the user's session. This allows our website to show you information based on things you've told us on previous pages. For example, after logging in, pages visited in the same session can include content specific to the user who logged in. A session ends when the user exists their browser.

ASCCPref

Aerian Studios Cookie Cutter Preferences. If you click 'Allow' in the bar at the top of our site which asks if you would like to allow cookies, this cookie is set in order that the bar does not appear on other pages.

Website analytics:

We use the Google Analytics package to better understand user behaviour on our website. Google Analytics uses cookies to track visitor interactions. These cookies are used to store information, such as the time of your visit to our website, whether you have been to the website before, and where you come from before entering our website. Information collected in this way is anonymous and individuals cannot be traced. This information allows us to improve our website, for example, to assess the impact of and develop campaigns and services. Every computer and device connected to the Internet is assigned a unique number known as an Internet protocol (IP) address. Google Analytics will also collect your IP address. This information allows us to know approximately where in the World you and our other website visitors come from, but not your IP address. For more information about Google Analytics, please see its terms of service and privacy policy. If you are concerned about the use of your data for this purpose please investigate the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

__utma

This cookie is typically written to the browser upon the first visit to your site from that web browser. If the cookie has been deleted by the browser operator, and the browser subsequently visits your site, a new __utma cookie is written with a different unique ID. This cookie is used to determine unique visitors to your site and it is updated with each page view. Additionally, this cookie is provided with a unique ID that Google Analytics uses to ensure both the validity and accessibility of the cookie as an extra security measure.

__utmb

This cookie is used to establish and continue a user session with your site. When a user views a page on your site, the Google Analytics code attempts to update this cookie. If it does not find the cookie, a new one is written and a new session is established. Each time a user visits a different page on your site, this cookie is updated to expire in 30 minutes, thus continuing a single session for as long as user activity continues within 30-minute intervals. This cookie expires when a user pauses on a page on your site for longer than 30 minutes.

__utmc

Historically, this cookie operated in conjunction with the __utmb cookie to determine whether or not to establish a new session for the user. For backwards compatibility purposes with sites still using the urchin.js tracking code, this cookie will continue to be written and will expire when the user exits the browser.

__utmz

This cookie stores the type of referral used by the visitor to reach your site, whether via a direct method, a referring link, a website search, or a campaign such as an ad or an email link. It is used to calculate search engine traffic, ad campaigns and page navigation within your own site. The cookie is updated with each page view to your site.

__utmx

This cookie is used by Website Optimizer and only set when the Website Optimizer tracking code is installed and correctly configured for your pages. When the optimizer script executes, this cookie stores the variation this visitor is assigned to for each experiment, so the visitor has a consistent experience on your site. See the Website Optimizer Help Center for more information.
