It's the final day of Dementia Action Week and we have another amazing story to share with you.

Today's story is from Dementia Friend Jean Wilcox who supports her neighbour who is living with dementia:

'I help my neighbour who has undiagnosed dementia. As we live over the road, we are able to go across when she calls, as she gets very anxious and has panic attacks. Just having someone go in or visit makes a huge difference to her, her colour will change from pale to normal and she will stop having a panic attack.

'Recently my Husband and I took her to a necessary dental appointment and on the way home, we asked her if she would like to have a pot of tea in a local pub, which she enjoyed. Afterwards, we took her to a local park, just for ten minutes and she was so thrilled to have what she considered a wonderful treat!  Fortunately, at that time a heron appeared on the bank of the small lake, which really made her day. Simple things but they meant a great deal to someone so frightened by life.'

How did becoming a Dementia Friend help you?
One of the really useful things I learnt was that even if someone living with dementia forgot about the trip you had taken them on, the emotion and feeling engendered by the trip would be remembered. Really useful fact to act on.
