We are currently undergoing some exciting changes with our Dementia Friends Champions role! We are developing a new role of Dementia Friend Ambassador, giving our volunteers the opportunity to run Dementia Friends Sessions, raise awareness of Alzheimer’s Society and inspire even more people.
We are currently not taking new registrations for the Dementia Friends Champion role. Please check back to see when registrations will open for Ambassadors or contact dementiafriends@alzheimers.org.uk for more information.
Dementia Friends Ambassador inductions are run across England, Wales, Guernsey and the Isle of Man by Alzheimer's Society, using our experience of training volunteers.
The induction day lasts for one day and you will learn about dementia and how it affects people, and the practical actions that Dementia Friends can take that could help someone with dementia living in their community. You will learn how to run Dementia Friends Information Sessions to inspire other people to become Dementia Friends and help to create dementia friendly communities.
During the induction day you will also get lots of information and resources to help you understand how to answer people's questions about dementia and the sources of further information and support you can direct them to. We will bring our extensive experience of training volunteers to help you feel happy and confident about being a volunteer Dementia Friends Ambassador.
We envisage that the majority of people attending the induction will go on to be successful Dementia Friends Ambassador but this role isn't right for everyone. You may decide after the induction that it isn't right for you. Or the trainer may feel your skills and experience are better suited to getting involved in other ways. We will make sure you know how to be involved in the initiative as a Dementia Friend and about other ways you can help create dementia friendly communities.
